KEROSINE - sports mobile app usability testing.

The challenge

Kerosine is an app designed for workouts, dedicated to all gym-goers, whether they are beginners, regulars, or professional coaches.

The app was in the final phase of development (alpha and beta testing) when the research project began, and its development had not included research into user needs. For this reason, the initial user tests provided an opportunity to verify assumptions made for the product. It is noteworthy that the quality of a training program was significant, as not only the first experience, but also the regularity of training, had to be considered in usability testing.

What have we accomplished?

  • 1. Task-oriented usability testing of the app, augmented by a needs assessment (IDI).
  • 2. Diary study covering a few weeks during the implementation of the training programme.

Effects

The research project enhanced the understanding of user needs and validated assumptions regarding the business model within the competitive and saturated fitness app market.

Based on the results of usability tests and project recommendations, the client streamlined the app and implemented support features, such as a tutorial for beginners. Moreover, the data from our study supported the product’s marketing strategy and the design of the product’s website, as well as the creation of a pitch deck for potential investors.
